The Race

The Paddlemore 2018

Southern Shores, NC

 

Come join us for the first annual 2018 Southern Shores Paddlemore Race and Clinic benefiting the North Carolina Coastal Federation SUP race. This event will be held at the North Marina in Southern Shores, NC on Saturday, June 9th, 2018 at 9:00 AM.

 

The event is set up for all ages and abilities, from beginner to advanced paddlers. Our one day event will consist of three races: A 4 mile flat water paddle course will be in the creek and finish through the scenic canals of Southern Shores. The technical course and a half mile youth race will be held on the creek and visible from the shoreline and pavilion.

 

The event will be held on Jean Guite Creek at the Southern Shores, North Marina off of the Currituck Sound with the water start and beach finish at the marina. Limited recreational board rentals will be available from ‘Just for the Beach’. Board drop off at the pavilion and parking at the boat ramp.  There is a short walk to the pavilion from the boat ramp.

A portion of the race proceeds will support the North Carolina Coastal Federation’s local efforts to protect and restore coastal habitats and water quality- keeping our waters clean for swimming and paddling, and keeping our coast healthy and beautiful! See more at NC Coastal Federation Web

Additionally,  we will offer free paddle clinics, up to 6 participants per clinic,  to be held on Wednesday evenings at 6 PM, starting May 9th at the race site, 177 south Dogwood Trail, Pavilion, Southern Shores, NC 27949. RSVP at 252-489-3491 if interested in participating. Rain date will date will be Thursday of same week.

1st-3rd Podium Awards will be given in the following categories provided there are at least 3 participants in that category:

4 Mile flat water -

Elite SUP Men (race style/displacement hull board any length),

Elite SUP Women (race style/displacement hull board any length),

Recreational SUP Men (planing hull/surfboard shape any length)

Recreational SUP Women (planing hull/surfboard shape any length)

Open Paddle Men (any paddle craft--Kayak, canoe, oc1, prone etc)

Open Paddle Women (any paddle craft--Kayak, canoe, oc1, prone etc)

Kids Under 13

Paddle Clinic

Free paddle clinics, up to 6 participants per clinic,  will be held on Wednesday evenings at 6 PM, starting May 9th at the race site and Run through June 6th at 177 South Dogwood Trail, Southern Shores, NC 27949. NOTES FOR ALL COURSES:

  • The race course will not be closed to boat traffic.  Please be aware and courteous.

  • Use of headphones is discouraged as that prohibits your ability to safely hear oncoming traffic and other racers.

  • Safety boats will be placed at each intersection

  • A USCG Approved PFD is required to race (on a person, or on a vessel). USCG certified flotation belts are approved to race with

  • Leashes are mandatory

  • WPA rules apply to this event

  • Here is the WPA rule book if you are not familiar

PLAN YOUR RACE

Register

Register for the race ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.  Choose your race or multiple races.   

Training Program

Train for the race.  Paddle, hydrate, eat healthy and repeat 1-3 times per week.  If you have never raced before take a clinic or if you are local sign up for one of ours in the link below.  Wednesday evenings, once a week up to race week.

Where to stay?

For most it is a day trip. some will stay with friends and some will need a recommendation.  We recommend AIRBNB. They give you the best variety of options for lodging
